Rotary International Foundation Trustee Holger Knaack, alongside his spouse, paid a significant visit to Nigeria in early November 2025, his first to the country since taking up his new leadership responsibilities. His visit reaffirmed Rotary’s unwavering dedication to ending polio and strengthening community health systems across Nigeria.

On November 6th, Trustee Knaack visited the National PolioPlus Office in Abuja, where he was warmly received by the National PolioPlus Committee (NNPPC) members. The visit provided an opportunity for open dialogue, updates, and renewed commitment to the final stages of polio eradication.

A major highlight of the visit was a symbolic polio immunization activity held at the AMAC Primary Health Centre, Lugbe, Abuja. Trustee Knaack joined members of the NNPPC to administer the oral polio vaccine to children during a special immunization exercise.

Together, they successfully vaccinated 100 children, reinforcing the message that every child must be reached to sustain Nigeria’s polio-free status. In appreciation of caregivers who brought their children for vaccination, gifts were given out, creating a warm and encouraging environment for families.

Trustee Knaack applauded the dedication of local health workers and partners, noting that their work continues to protect millions of children and strengthen trust in routine immunization.

Following the field activity, the trustee returned to the NNPPC office for a strategic briefing with the Executive Committee. The Chairman of the National PolioPlus Committee, Past District Governor, presented an overview of the office structure, current field activities, achievements, and ongoing challenges.

Trustee Knaack praised the professionalism and resilience of the team, especially in navigating complex terrain and maintaining strong community engagement. He also emphasized the importance of partnership with government at all levels, encouraging continued alignment with national health priorities. In his closing remarks, Holger Knaack reaffirmed Rotary’s global commitment to seeing polio eradicated once and for all

His visit energized the NNPPC team and strengthened Rotary Nigeria’s resolve to keep pushing forward, through advocacy, surveillance, community engagement, and partnership.

As Nigeria continues to safeguard its polio-free certification, this visit serves as a timely reminder that the final steps are the most critical. With Rotary’s leadership, government collaboration, and community support, a world free of polio is truly within reach.
