The fight to eradicate polio in Nigeria received another boost today as the 2nd Quarter Review Meeting of the National Task Force on the Eradication of Polio (NTLC) was held at the Continental Hotel, Abuja.

Representing Rotary International and the Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee (NNPPC) was HRH Ndanusa Yunusa Yakubu, Sarkin Nupawan Katsina, the NNPPC Vice Chairman (North), who delivered a goodwill message on behalf of Rotary. In his remarks, he reiterated Rotary’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that Nigeria not only maintains its polio-free status but also succeeds in stopping the transmission of circulating Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2).

The meeting was graced by the presence of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, a long-standing advocate of polio eradication, alongside other distinguished traditional rulers, including the Emir of Argungu and the Mai Kaltungo. Their presence underscored the vital role of traditional institutions in driving acceptance of immunization campaigns and mobilizing communities toward a polio-free Nigeria.

A highlight of the event was a photograph session with His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, symbolizing the enduring partnership between traditional leadership and the polio eradication initiative. This collaboration remains crucial in strengthening trust at the grassroots and ensuring no child is left behind.

As Nigeria continues its journey to safeguard children from polio, the active involvement of traditional leaders alongside government, partners, and Rotary stands as a beacon of hope that together, we will End Polio for good.
