Rotarians across Nigeria continue to sharpen their skills, strengthen their resolve, and renew their commitment to ending polio. In August 2025, the Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee (NNPPC) hosted a series of PolioPlus Seminars in Lagos (District 9111), Abuja (District 9127), and Jos, bringing together Rotarians, health partners, and government officials to deepen knowledge and capacity in the fight against polio.

These seminars were designed to equip Rotarians with practical tools and field-ready skills to support vaccination campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and advocacy programs that remain critical in the final stretch toward global polio eradication.

The seminars focused on practical training to help Rotarians take their impact further. Key sessions included:

  • Supervision on the Field – Participants were trained to effectively support vaccination teams during National Immunization Days (NIDs) and ensure quality monitoring.

  • Use of ODK (Open Data Kit) – Hands-on training equipped Rotarians with digital tools to collect real-time field data, track progress, and strengthen accountability.

  • Fundraising for Polio Eradication – Strategies for sustaining contributions to the Polio Fund were discussed, emphasizing the critical role of donations in vaccine delivery and community engagement.

  • Advocacy and Partnerships – Rotarians learned how to effectively engage traditional leaders, policymakers, and communities in sustaining trust and support for vaccination efforts.

  • Planning for 2025 World Polio Day – Participants brainstormed impactful events and campaigns to raise awareness, mobilize communities, and spotlight Rotary’s global mission.

The seminars drew participation and expertise from Rotary’s frontline partners, including:

  • World Health Organization (WHO)

  • UNICEF

  • State Immunization Officers

These partners shared insights on surveillance, communication, and effective strategies for reaching every child — even in hard-to-reach and high-risk communities.

Training was also led by NNPPC Chairman, Past District Governor Joshua Hassan, Vice Chairman PAG Dantata Ndus Muhammad , and National Program Coordinator, Gbenga Olayiwole, whose sessions inspired and equipped Rotarians with actionable knowledge to bring back to their districts.

On Friday, August 22nd, Rotarians gathered in Jos for an engaging seminar that combined learning, reflection, and renewed energy for the fight against polio.
Participants explored advocacy, communication, surveillance, and community engagement, all while sharing practical field applications and innovative approaches to building trust.

The seminar ended with powerful discussions and renewed pledges of support for World Polio Day 2025 a reminder that every conversation, every lesson, and every action brings us closer to a polio-free future.

From Lagos to Abuja and Jos, these seminars were more than training events — they were calls to action, uniting Rotarians, health partners, and leaders around one shared mission: ending polio forever.

With sharpened skills, stronger partnerships, and renewed commitments, Rotary in Nigeria stands ready to continue leading the charge in the fight against polio.

Together, we learn. Together, we lead. Together, we end polio.
