At Rotary International and especially through the Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee (NNPPC) we have maintained our role as a founding and pivotal partner in the global fight against polio ever since the launch of Rotary’s PolioPlus program in 1985 and the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) at the World Health Assembly (WHA) in 1988. We have supported surveillance activities, procured vaccines, adorned vaccination teams with aprons, and generally been a force for good within the partnership across the world. One of the ways we have also been very impactful, which usually does not get the recognition it deserves is in motivating and appreciating the dedicated teams and individuals working towards the eradication of poliomyelitis in every part of the world.

These workers, often in high-risk areas, are the backbone of the polio eradication effort. Rotary International and the Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee recognizes their hard work and dedication and this is why we instituted the Polio Frontline Field Workers Awards which have been held annually except for the year when the COVID pandemic made it impossible to do so.
