NIGERIA POLIO UPDATE 2025
Nigeria remains Wild Poliovirus Free. There are only two endemic countries for Wild Poliovirus type 1, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
38 cVPV2 from 28 LGAs in 10 states
27 cVPV2 from AFP, 1 from a healthy child, and 10 from ES
3 VPVn from Sokoto (2) and Kano states, with a recent date of onset, 2nd June 2025
21 out of the 37 cVPV2 detected so far are orphan viruses
The recent date of onset of cVPV2 was on June 28, 2025, from Shagari LGA of Sokoto State.
1 aVPV3 from an AFP case with date of onset 4th Feb 2025 from Nguru LGA, and 1 aVPV2 from an AFP case with date of onset 21st Jan 2025 from Tarmuwa LGA, Yobe state
2 new PV2 isolates reported this week, Sokoto (1 AFP) and Borno(1 ES)
