Some of the boldest names in American giving \u2014 Kellogg, Komen, and MacArthur, among others \u2014are past honorees.<\/span><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5629 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/polioplus.org.ng\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/afp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/polioplus.org.ng\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/afp.jpg 600w, https:\/\/polioplus.org.ng\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/afp-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/polioplus.org.ng\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/afp-110x73.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The announcement came on 15 November, known to industry professionals since the 1980s as National Philanthropy Day. The award was presented on 2nd May at the AFP\u2019s annual conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair-elect Paul Netzel accepted the award on Rotary\u2019s behalf, and Eric Schmelling, Rotary&#8217;s chief philanthropy officer, also attended the conference. The event drew more than 3,400 senior-level fundraising professionals from 33 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIn our Centennial year, we are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Association of Fundraising Professionals,\u201d said Netzel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">AFP\u2019s committee of judges cited Rotary\u2019s comprehensive campaign to eradicate polio as a major driver of the selection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWith the generous support of our members and partners, we\u2019ve taken on some of the toughest humanitarian challenges in the world, none more so than the devastating disease of polio,\u201d said Netzel. \u201cWe will defeat polio, and it will be a landmark achievement for global public health.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The committee also mentioned that Rotary applies a methodical, purposeful approach to support a wide variety of causes, from providing clean water to educating the next generation of peace professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThis award helps to spread our belief that service to humankind truly changes our world, and for that reason, it is the greatest work of life,\u201d said Netzel.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Association of Fundraising Professionals recognized The Rotary Foundation with its annual Award for Outstanding Foundation at its 2017 conference in San Francisco.
